PFAS in wine?!

There is so much going on in the world. Sometimes it is difficult to stay positive. We at Neleman do our best and continue to focus on making delicious organic wine from local grapes, in collaboration with nature.

Research
We have of course also read the news about the increase in TFA contamination in European wine. Following this message, we immediately consulted with our winemakers and quality managers. The research shows that Spanish wines come out best, we think simply because most Spanish vineyards are not located near heavy industry.

Less PFAS in organic wines
Furthermore, the article states that fewer PFAS-related substances have been found in organic wines, which is positive. However, because PFAS is present everywhere in the environment, there is no guarantee that (our) organic wines do not contain PFAS. About the use of pesticides and the consequences thereof and whether or not this is PFAS-related: it is clear that the fewer pesticides are used, the better for the environment and ourselves.

Testing
We test our wines extensively, also for possible chemicals. PFAS has become so topical quite recently and it requires specific research techniques to demonstrate the presence of substances that fall under PFAS. Our laboratory has to outsource this. After this research became known, we immediately took steps to perform this test on our wines. At this moment we cannot give a 100% guarantee, but what is clear in any case: the better we treat the earth, the better it is for ourselves. Together we make the (wine) world more beautiful!
