Neleman Bobal Robusta Best Bobal wine!

Recently we received awesome news! Our winemaker Jorge has done his very best, since starting working at Neleman, to make the Bobal grape shine. Of course he was very much encouraged by founder Derrick Neleman himself. And now we have some great results: our red wine Neleman Bobal Robusta 2023 (Utiel Requena appellation) has been selected as the the best Bobal wine of the region in a blind tasting organised by the appellation and amongst all the wineries of the appellation. 

This means that Neleman Bobal Robusta 2023 is going to be the wine representing the DOP Utiel Requena in upcoming events and fairs this year and is going to be promoted by them constantly!

This grape is indigenous for the Valencia region and is making a great comeback. It has always been a challenge for the farmers west of Valencia to get a good and consistent harvest. Here they grow their grapes, almonds and olives on small terraces in the sandy hills, which provide the terroir in our wine. These terraces are dug into the mountains, have shallow soils and the difference in day and night temperatures can be up to 25 degrees in the most extreme cases. 

The bobal grape has always been grown on this soil and has a thick skin that protects the juice from the bright sun. The vines have a strong, deep root system that can provide enough moisture even in the driest summers. This grape ripens late and the aromas only develop from mid-September, when it is already a bit cooler and the subtle scents are not lost in the heat. We are very pleased that this grape now will be a star on every winefair and event as our Bobal Robusta and will be able to tell the story of excellent sustainable wine making.
